Nationally a new approach to the well-being of people as
they get older is being reviewed in order to ensure that
older people are considered in a more comprehensive and
systematic way.
|
It aims to ensure that people
stay in control of their lives and play a full and active role
in society. People are living longer and the number of older
people in Calderdale over 50 is forecast to increase
substantially over the next 10 years. This includes an
increasing proportion of older people in the older age range who
may be frailer and/or have a long-term medical condition.
The Government believes that in the years after 50 we all want 3
main things. They are career opportunities that suit
family circumstances, active involvement in society and independence and control over
our lives.
The new focus sees a move
towards a more positive emphasis on well-being and engagement
with the wider community. Calderdale Forward is in the early
stages of developing its strategic approach to this broader,
more holistic agenda.
