Preventable ill-health, preventable long-term conditions,
and premature death represent a huge cost both in human
terms, through unnecessary suffering and early death, and in
economic terms, with ever increasing costs to the NHS and
Social Care services. Furthermore, there are significant
differences in health across Calderdale, often due to social
deprivation and its causes. |
Consequently partners are
committed to work together to improve health and reduce
inequalities and narrow the gap between communities, to ensure
that people in Calderdale enjoy active, healthy lives no matter
where they live.
Key priorities include a focus on the following determinants of
preventable ill health: promotion of good diet and nutrition to
tackle obesity and poor oral health, smoking, coronary heart
disease, alcohol related harm, teenage conceptions, reducing
levels of incapacity benefit, and providing affordable warmth.
