The
quality of our environment affects everybody and is a key
part of community well-being. |
The quality of local housing,
transport systems and traffic levels, the consumption of finite
natural resources, the conservation and enhancement of local
biodiversity, and the amount of waste produced impact on the
economy, the health of local people, and on global climate
change.
The key issues for Calderdale over the next few years include
the need to ensure that there are affordable homes in the
District, that provision is of good quality, meets a wide
variety of housing needs, and that the existing and new housing
stock is more sustainable. Transport issues are a major source
of concern for residents, commuters and visitors. There is a
need to raise awareness about the local impact of global climate
change and then take determined action. The District's approach
to dealing with household and commercial waste, protecting land,
habitats and wildlife, and reducing pollution of our environment
are major challenges for local people, businesses, and public
agencies.
