Calderdale has an important strategic location between the
fast developing conurbations of West Yorkshire and Greater
Manchester and aims to secure growth that benefits all
sections of the population.
|
The nature of the local economy
is rapidly evolving as the District continues its transition
from a traditional industry base to an increasingly diverse
economic structure.
There are a number of challenges and opportunities facing the
District over the next few years that will impact on the
prosperity of its communities and businesses. These include the
need to address the different requirements of rural and urban
parts of the District, narrowing the gap between the
disadvantaged and better off parts of the community across a
wide range of issues, the competition between industry and
housing for limited land for development, and the rising age
profile of the population. Opportunities exist for the District
to stake a claim in the wider economic agenda, for example
through City Region Development and the Northern Way Growth
Strategy.
