Calderdale is a place where most children and young people
thrive, succeed, and enjoy their childhood. They have access
to good childcare and nursery provision and to a range of
good schools where they are able to achieve and prosper.
|
They live in communities where
the quality of life is generally good and improving.
However this is not the case for all our children and young
people. There is a small minority of children, young people and
families for whom there is a different and less positive
reality. In areas of disadvantage, some of them very localised,
children and young people have much less opportunity to achieve
their potential.
Our ambition is that all Calderdale's children and young people
are given the opportunity to thrive and succeed and to enjoy
growing up in a safe, secure, healthy and economically
prosperous environment. This needs to be seen in the context of
children and young people as part of families, and of families
as part of communities.
The key challenges to be addressed for children and young people
are: the variation in health inequalities; prevention
and early intervention to protect those at risk; improvements in
attainment levels within some geographical communities and
communities of interest; support for those at risk of offending;
support for children and young people to take up opportunities
to participate in decision-making; and improvements in
attainment levels for 19 year olds.
