The Dignity Code - The purpose of this Dignity Code, published by the National Pensioners Convention in February 2012, is to uphold the rights and maintain the personal dignity of older people, within the context of ensuring the health, safety and well being of those who are increasingly less able to care for themselves or to properly conduct their affairs. The code aims to raise awareness among both professionals and the general public and is supported by UK government ministers and professional bodies.

European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations - 2012 has been declared 'European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations' . The main objectives will be to promote active ageing in employment; promote active ageing in the community through active citizenship, volunteering and caring; promote active ageing at home through enabling healthy ageing and independent living and enhance cooperation and solidarity between generations.

Meeting the health care needs of people in care homes - In March 2012 CQC (the Care Quality Commission) published the results of a review of how the healthcare needs of care home residents are met. The review addressed how older people and people with learning disabilities living in care homes access healthcare services, whether they have choice and control over their healthcare and whether they receive care that is safe and respects their dignity.
